About Flavio
I became an avid caminante upon my first steps on the Camino de Santiago more than a decade—and several pairs of hiking shoes— ago. Since then I’ve walked many hundreds of kilometers across various regions of Spain and Portugal on caminos both well-traveled and little known.
I take great pleasure in sharing my knowledge of the Caminos de Santiago, based on my experience walking and researching the ancient paths in Spain and Portugal and the infrastructure available en route to pilgrims of moderate means and physical abilities. I specialize in planning small-group independent or accompanied Caminos tailored to the participating pilgrims' desires in terms of routes, length of trip and daily distances, intellectual interests, accommodations preferences and baggage transport.
In my years B.C (Before Camino) I was a professor of law at Hampshire College, recently retired. My main areas of academic interest were (and are) immigration history and policy, international human rights law and critical race studies. Though I was born in Cuba, my family roots are in Spain. I’m a native speaker of both Spanish and English and a permanent student of Spanish history and politics. I am not a religious believer even though I presume to call myself a pilgrim on these paths.
